I was doing a little research on some different brands and ran across this John Deere video on YouTube. I thought my viewers might like to see what “Brand Pornography” is and why they want to create it.
As you will see in this video, the first thing that catches you is the song – John Deere Green by Joe Diffie. This song talks about a little slice of Americana, a couple of kids raised in or near a farming town. So the song tells a story of this young man using “John Deere Green” to spray paint his love for his girl.
The interesting thing about this song is that it does not talk about tractors at all, but just the branded color used by John Deere and everyone knows instantly what color Joe is talking about. That is brand power!
Then as you watch this video, you will notice flipping through the John Deere tractors and other equipment just like sexy pinups of the 40’s and 50’s. I realized that the person that put this video together and the audience intended to watch this were people that were extremely brand loyal to the point of ogling over all the equipment John Deere makes.
So what are you going to do to get your clients and prospects writing songs about your brand and putting slide shows together nearly idolizing the products they love? Is branding expensive? Yes, very expensive, however, John Deere didn’t spend a cent creating this video and other ones out there, I’m sure. They did however treat their customers right with great respect and quality service and then built a strong brand around this.
So first make sure you offer the highest quality product or service and then offer the best customer service. Once you have this foundation built hire the best brand management firm you can afford and start building your brand consistently over the years.
